All-of-a-Kind Family: Special Hanukkah Book Event & Mini-Tour

  • Bialystoker Synagogue 7-11 Willett Street/ Bialystoker Place New York, NY, 10002 United States (map)

Join New York Times bestselling author Emily Jenkins and Caldecott award-winning illustrator Paul O. Zelinsky for a special Hanukkah event with the LESJC that celebrates the release of All-of-a-Kind Family Hanukkah, a NEW book in a classic series that evokes the crowded but cozy tenement world of the early 20th century.

Written with the support of the Sydney Taylor Foundation, the beloved characters from the original All-of-a-Kind Family come to life in a new format in this beautiful holiday picture book that transports readers back to the Lower East Side of 1912, as the family prepares for the first night of Hanukkah. First published in 1951, Taylor's chapter books have become time-honored favorites, selling over a million copies and touching generations of readers. These books give a heartwarming glimpse of a Jewish immigrant family and their customs that is as relevant today as when it was first written.

Share this joyous holiday tale by acclaimed author Emily Jenkins (A Greyhound, a Groundhog) and award-winning illustrator Paul O. Zelinsky (Rapunzel) for a charming compliment to Taylor's series that perfectly captures the warmth and family values that made the original titles classics.

This event will start with a mini tour of the glorious Bialystoker Synagogue, a former church built in 1826, covered in a riot of colorful murals and Tiffany inspired stained glass, with the astrological signs on the ceiling. Next will be a book talk and reading from the author and illustrator, followed by Questions and Answers. We will end this unique program with a jelly doughnut and book signing.

You will have the opportunity to purchase additional books - perfect for Hanukkah gift-giving!

The price includes a hard covered book and Hanukkah Sufganiyot (Jelly Doughnuts)

If you enjoyed these books when you were younger, or would like to share this with your children or grandchildren, please join us for this special event!

. We request that you please buy your tickets by 5:00PM, Wednesday, November 28 so we know how many books to order.
